The Board of Finance approved cuts of more than $555,000 in Eastons 2011-12 budgets Thursday night. The budget would increase taxes by 2.46 percent tax. It goes to the annual town meeting on April 25.
"I think the Board of Education has done a great job making a tight budget," Easton resident Monica Chioffi said. "For me, the main focus was to restore programs at Helen Keller. It's all very positive."
The Board of Education restored a music position at Helen Keller Middle School that was cut in a previous budget.
The adjusted expenditures total number is $41.17 million and represents an increase of $608,573, bringing the mill rate to 22.9.
Cuts made since the March 21 public hearing include $226,000 from the police budget, more than $58,000 from the Board of Education's budget and $50,000 from pensions. The total operating costs were reduced by more than $454,000 and the total capital reductions are about $100,000.
At the town meeting, residents will be able to suggest a decrease in the budget and will vote on whether it should go to referendum on May 3.
