EASTON, Conn. A company offering chimney cleaning may be attempting to scam Easton residents, police warn.
A resident said late last month that he received a phone call from a chimney cleaning company called Lysco Contracting, Capt. James Candee said. The caller told the resident that the company would be willing to clean the residents chimney for $50.
Police said the resident agreed to the services but when the contracting company showed up to inspect the chimney they billed him for $600.
Police said the two men who arrived at the home were described as 5 5, one Caucasian with a shaved head, and one Hispanic. The men arrived in a red van with Massachusetts plates with Lysco Contracting written on the side of the van.
Police are urging all residents to be wary of any calls they receive from this business but also of any cold calls of people soliciting work. Please do not accept these cold calls, there are plenty of reputable people in town that can do this kind of work, Candee said.

Steven Kempenich, 40, of Marmil Drive, was arrested on Oct. 28 and charged with assault in the third- degree and interfering with an emergency call, after an alleged domestic dispute with his wife.
Police said they received a call from a 42-year-old woman residing at Marmil Drive stating that she was having an argument with her estranged husband at her home.
When police arrived on scene they learned that Kempenich allegedly grabbed his wife by the wrist and ripped the phone out of her hand and broke it while she was attempting to call police. Kempenich was arrested and released on a written promise to appear in court with a date scheduled for this week.
