Easton Memorial Day Parade Kicks Off at Firehouse

EASTON, Conn. – The Memorial Day Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Easton firehouse and marches down Center Street to Town Hall.

Tony Unger, commander of American Legion Post 160, which sponsors the parade, said it will include a musical performance by the Helen Keller Middle School band. The Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other civic groups will also march, and the Congregational Church will have a float celebrating its 250th anniversary.

Active duty Navy Chief Graham Shook, a member of the helicopter team at Sikorsky, will speak at the conclusion of the parade. A major political candidate will make an appearance.

This year’s parade is at least the 30th that has been held in Easton, Unger said. It will honor Harold and Fred Candee, members of the Easton American Legion post for the past 60 years.

The size of the crowd will depend on the weather. Unger said Center Street from the firehouse to Town Hall should be filled, and he expects 200 to 300 people at Town Hall.
