Easton Grows Slightly, Census Shows

Easton's population increased 2.9 percent since 2000. The 2011 U.S. Census data for Connecticut went public on Wednesday, and the total number of people living in town rang in at 7,490.

Ten years ago, 16 African-Americans lived in town compared to 52 last year. The number of Asians also tripled – from three in 2000 to nine in 2010. The Hispanic population nearly doubled, increasing from 128 to 220 in a decade. And the mixed-race population also grew by more than 100 percent.

Easton's overall growth was slower than both Fairfield County's -- 3.9 percent -- and Connecticut -- 4.9 percent. And its voting age population went up 3.3 percent to 5,362.
