Easton Family Signs Cell Tower Lease

EASTON, Conn. – Easton residents will get to weigh in on a cellphone tower proposal now that a lease has been signed to erect a 160-foot-tall antenna on a parcel on Center Road near Adams Road. The lease was signed Nov. 23 between members of the Ganim family and Message Center Management, a wireless antenna developer, First Selectman Thomas Herrmann said Monday.

If a cell tower were constructed in Easton, Herrmann said he would prefer it to be on town-owned land so Easton would reap the financial benefit, which he estimated to be $30,000 to $50,000 annually. 

“I don’t constitute this site to be the best for the citizens of Easton,” the first selectman said. 

Two other spots in town have been considered for a cell tower, Snow’s Farm on Sport Hill Road and a town-owned piece of land on Veterans Field.

The next step, Herrmann said, is for Message Center Management to conduct an evaluation of the Center Road site, which could take four to six weeks. Once that is completed, along with a few other visual and signal strength tests, there will be a 60-day public comment period before the town Planning and Zoning Commission. Then the proposal will be presented to the Connecticut Siting Council for review and possible approval.
