Easton Dog License Deadline Nears

EASTON, Conn. — Dog licenses must be renewed in the month of June for the next fiscal year starting Friday, July 1. The town clerk's office will be open for a special extra session for new or renewal of dog licenses only on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. This is the last day for renewal without incurring a late penalty.

Licenses may be renewed in person at the town clerk's office at 225 Center Road or by mail.

Every dog 6 months or older must have a valid license. To renew a license, a valid rabies certificate is required. Residents must show the original rabies certificate the first time it is used. At that time, a copy is made and the original is returned to the owner. The certificate is then on file until it expires and is not needed for license renewal. As an alternative, a fax to 203-261-6080 of the certificate is accepted directly from a local vet who has performed the vaccination. If you renew by mail, you must send the original rabies certificate — a copy is not acceptable. The original will be returned with the license.

To renew a license, the town needs the name and telephone number of the owner as well as the address where the dog can be found. An Internet address is optional. We also need the name, age, breed and color of the dog. If you have a photograph of the dog, we can put it on the license, if you wish.

Licenses cost $8 if the dog is spayed or neutered, and $19 if not. Kennel licenses cost $50 for up to 50 dogs, plus 10 cents per dog tag. Late licensing or late renewal incurs a late fee of $1 per month or part of a month. If licensing or renewal is by mail, there is an additional charge of $1 for mail and other costs.

The town clerk's office is open weekdays from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. The town clerk can be reached at 203-268-6291 or by email at townclerk@eastonct.gov.
