Easton Bands Battle for Recording Deal

If confidence is all it takes, Megan Kowalski and her Sly Dogs bandmates should be shoo-ins Saturday night at the Easton Community Center's Battle of the Bands. "We're the best," Megan says.

Megan and her friends, all sixth-graders at Helen Keller Middle School, will compete against three other bands. Their band includes Olivia C. on vocals, Allie Loder on the piano, Juliane Licamela on vocals and drums and Kelly Kowalski on vocals. Megan plays the tambourine.

They will sing songs such as "Don't Stop Believing," "Edge of Glory" and "Who Says." The Sly Dogs came together when they heard about the competition.

Megan’s twin sister, Kelly, and her friends refer to themselves as the "sly dogs" and that's how they decided on the name.

First place will win 20 minutes in a private studio to record a CD. Each band will get 25 minutes to show its stuff. The Sly Dogs will be competing against The Arrowheads and This Side Up, both from Easton, as well as Pampalibros from Redding.

Two high school bands–The Hayz and Way Down–will headline after the competition. Bands will be judged based on stage presence, song difficulty, music difficulty and originality. The battle runs from 6 to 9 p.m. There is a $7 admission fee.
