EASTON, Conn. While we might not want to admit it, winter is on the way and Easton officials are getting ready to take on slippery roads.
The Board of Selectmen approved a bid Thursday night to buy winter maintenance sand from Zwally Hauling, LLC for $13.65 a ton.
First Selectman Thomas Herrmann said Zwally Hauling's was the lowest of seven bids. Besides Zwally, Julian Department bid $14.90 a ton and Balestrieri & Sons, Inc. bid $16.50. Although the bids varied, all three companies use the same supplier, O&G Industries in Monroe, according to Herrmann.
Herrmann said he was pleased with Zwally Hauling and said he liked the fact that they are based in Monroe in close proximity to Easton.
