Former Weston resident Dudley H. Fay Jr., who was a navigator on bombers in WWII and later had a long career in business and advertising, died Sept. 4 at the age of 86.
The father of four served as a captain in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945 with the 306th Bomb Group. He flew in the famous Schweinfurt raid, the largest air battle of the war at the time, before his plane was shot down and he became a POW in Germany.
Fay graduated from Georgetown University in 1948 and worked for Kraft Foods before becoming executive vice president at J. Walter Thompson in New York. He also worked at William Esty Advertising and at Merrill Lynch. He played bridge in national tournaments and reached the rank of life master through the American Contract Bridge League. His career took him to California, but he moved back to Trumbull in 2001 to be closer to his children.
He is survived by four children, Julie Fay, Dudley Fay III and his wife, Maureen, Susan Fay and Cynthia Fay and her husband, Jim Jarboe; four grandchildren and a nephew and niece.
