WESTPORT, Conn. A driver escaped serious injury Saturday night after his car rolled down an embankment on Interstate 95 north near the Fairfield town line.
Westport firefighters and EMS, along with state police and AMR, responded to the accident at about 7:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a red Volkswagen that had gone down an embankment along the banks of Sasco Creek. Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee reported that the car struck a lamppost and crashed into the guardrail before it went down the embankment. The driver's side door was ripped off during the crash.
The driver got out of the car and back up to the roadway on his own. He was evaluated by EMS and transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The accident was cleared at 8:38 p.m.
