Domestic Violence Awareness Month Begins in Weston

WESTON, Conn. – October will be recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month when First Selectman Gayle Weinstein issues a proclamation at noon Monday, Oct. 3.

Weinstein will then welcome a guest speaker from the Domestic Violence Crisis Center to her monthly brown bag luncheon, which will begin immediately after the proclamation. Sue Delaney, the center's director of PeaceWorks and Medical Advocacy, will speak briefly on the issue of domestic violence and how it affects our area. The Domestic Violence Crisis Center is a local 501(c)(3) agency that provides free services to residents of Weston and surrounding towns, including counseling, court advocacy, medical advocacy, housing advocacy and age-appropriate educational programs.

Members of the Weston Domestic Violence Task Force, as well as Weston High School's Teen PeaceWorks group, will make available information about the services available from Weston Social Services, the Weston Police Department, Weston's middle and high school social worker and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
