Did You Feel That? Quake Causes Tremors in Weston

WESTON, Conn. – Mary Gunshor, the Weston Police Department's administrative assistant, was looking up an incident report for The Daily Weston when the building started to shake.

"It felt like the building was swaying," said Gunshor. No damage was found at the police department, and nothing even fell off Gunshor's desk. At the library across the parking lot, the library director didn't feel a thing. 

The 5.9-magnitude quake hit at about 1:53 p.m. near Mineral, Va., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. 

Karen Tatarka, Weston's library director, said earthquakes "hardly ever happen around here" and was surprised to hear that she missed it. Even Weston's police chief, John Troxell, didn't feel the tremors that Gunshor felt while in the same building. 

He remembered an earthquake he felt in the early '90s in Weston. "The ground rumbled, and it felt like a semi-truck went over a bump. I didn't think anything of it," said Troxell.
