Crowds Descend on Westport Stop & Shop

Bill Moeder of Fairfield was one of the lucky ones who had already finished his last-minute grocery haul at Westport Stop & Shop on Sunday morning, in advance of the blizzard. "The storm news came late," said Moeder, a high school teacher. "I wanted to get here early to stock up with hamburger and snacks so we can spend the next few days watching football."

The store's parking lot appeared near capacity, with cars circling, looking for spots. Inside, the checkout lines were very, very long.[breakhere]

Val Guilford of Norwalk broke out of the line after his son texted him from home to add corn muffin mix to his list. "Guess I have to get one more thing," he said. Val works in New York City and said he expects he will have to be at work Monday morning. Somehow.

Did you need to stock up on anything before the storm hit? Food? Ice melt? Shovel? How crowded are the stores and the streets? Post a comment below.
