Crews Hustle To Clear Weston Roads

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is hustling to clear the roads after old man winter dropped more than a dozen inches of snow in Weston on Sunday.

Two roads are currently closed due to fallen trees and broken power lines: Godfrey Road west near Georgetown Road, and North Avenue before Lyons Plain Road near Arlen Road. Most roads are one-way and are for emergency purposes only, said Fire Chief John Pokorny. Major roads are open, and secondary roads should be cleared by tomorrow.

"It's a lot of snow," Pokorny said. "There's no doing it fast. They've got to take their time ... it's pretty icy out here." Pokorny advised motorists to stay off the roads until they are cleared.

Several disabled vehicles were assisted on Sunday, but no major accidents were reported, according to police officials. Connecticut Light and Power reported 43 Weston homes were without power as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.
