Celebrate Georgetown Day This Sunday

GEORGETOWN, Conn. – Festivities abound in Georgetown on Sunday. The Georgetown Gallup kicks things off with a 5K road race that starts at 11 a.m. and ends on Main Street, where Georgetown Day will follow from noon to 6 p.m.

Georgetown Day, celebrating its 10th anniversary, features live music by local bands, international foods and a chili cookoff. There will also be a hot dog-eating competition, a dunking booth and vendors selling arts, crafts, clothing and jewelry.

Kids can have their faces painted, take a turn in the bounce house and more.

Ralph Bosch Jr., chairman of the Georgetown Day Committee and president of Georgetown Village Restoration, Inc., a Georgetown Day sponsor, said 4,000 to 7,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will be held rain or shine.

The Georgetown Gallup, sponsored by the Wilton Family Y and Wilton Chamber of Commerce, is a run for adults and children, on a mostly flat surface along Old Mill Road. Prizes by age group will be awarded. A Pony Express kids fun run will be held after the Gallup begins. Entry fee for the race is $20, $5 for the kids fun run, which includes a participation medal. Check in for the race starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Routes 57 and 107.
