WESTON, Conn. Filiberto Hernandez-Vasquez, 35, of Bridgeport, was arrested Aug. 4 after failing a field sobriety test in Weston.
He was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $300 cash bond with a court date of Aug. 12.
Weston police received a call about a gold Jeep driving erratically near Georgetown Road. Police said they saw the Jeep swerving left and right and crossing the center lines. An officer pulled the car over and upon interviewing Hernandez-Vasquez, said he smelled alcohol. His eyes were red and glassy and his speech was slurred, police said. Hernandez-Vasquez told police he did not have a driver's license and said he had consumed two beers.
When an officer asked Hernandez-Vasquez to follow a pen with his eyes, another officer observed a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, a jerkiness before 45 degrees in both eyes and at times he did not follow the pen. During the walk and turn test, police said Hernandez-Vasquez lost balance, raised arms for balance, did not place his heel and toe together, and turned incorrectly.
During the one leg stand test, police observed him swaying, using his arms for balance and hopping. He put his foot down and stopped after seven of the seconds.
