Book Disappears From Easton Clerk's Office

An index book from the Easton town clerk's office went missing sometime in November, according to Town Clerk Dr. Derek Buckley. The book is marked No. 31 and contains property records from the 1950s. "It disappeared," Buckley said. "I don't know why. We've looked everywhere for 31. It's just amazing to me that someone would walk out with that."

The book is large, roughly 18 inches tall by 12 inches wide and weighing more than 20 pounds. Buckley said that in the past, some people have come in and tried to destroy physical copies of marriage or property records in an attempt to rid themselves of legal responsibilities. This case, however, stumped the clerk and his assistants.

If anyone has information about book 31, please contact the clerk's office at (203) 268-6291 or the police department at (203) 268-4111. Buckley can also be reached by email at townclerk@eastonct.gov.
