Anthony Macciomei, Weston School Custodian

Oxford resident Anthony Nello Macciomei died Feb. 2 at St. Vincent's Medical Center at the age of 60. Macciomei was a well-liked custodian for Weston schools for the past seven years.

Macciomei served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He later took over his father's shoe repair business in Bridgeport before going to work for the Weston schools.

Macciomei was a fan of antique and hotrod cars, and amassed a collection of stock-racing memorabilia and other car-related collectables. He enjoyed vacations on Lake George, N.Y., with his family, cookouts, attending church, family gatherings and playing with his grandchildren.

Macciomei is survived by his wife of nine years, Carol Sullivan Macciomei; his children, Tina Cortina, and husband Michael of Easton, James DeSalle of Shelton, Dawn Matos of Seymour, Christopher Mainor of Oxford; sister Ginger Pogany and husband John of Trumbull; brother Michael Macciomei and wife Jane of Fairfield; and his grandchildren, nephew, several nieces and many close friends.

His family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, until his service at Trinity Baptist Church, 300 N. Benson Road, Fairfield. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Dave DeVries. Burial will be private.
