The birthday party is scheduled for Sept. 18 and will shut down Church Lane for special activities throughout the day for Y members, supporters and the public.
Founded by Edward Bedford, a Westport businessman and philanthropist, the Family Y opened Sept. 5, 1923. The Family Y is at 59 Post Road E., Westport, but construction on a new location began earlier this year.
The event’s celebrations include the following itinerary for Sept. 18:
- 4-6 p.m. – Church Lane will be closed for a range of family activities, like special performances by Y gymnasts, a bounce house and other games for young children, music, food vendors, a display of vintage cars and a pep rally for the Water Rat Swim Team.
- 5:30 p.m. – Cake and a group sing-along of “Happy Birthday, Family Y” will be held on Church Lane. Local volunteer leaders will make a special announcement about the new Y.
