Westport Weston Family Y Joins Japan Relief Effort

The Westport Weston Family Y is joining forces with affiliated members of YMCA of the USA to help raise disaster relief funds for victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that has devastated Japan.

"Our Family Y, in coordination with the national and global YMCA Movement, is mobilizing to provide assistance to the impacted families and communities and our colleagues at the Japan YMCA," Family Y CEO Rob Reeves said in a statement. "As a charitable nonprofit, the Y is committed to giving people the support needed to thrive, or at such times, survive. If you would like to support those impacted, please contribute to the Japan YMCA Relief Fund."

Every penny contributed to the Y-USA relief fund will be donated to the Japan YMCA. Donations can be made online, by mail or by calling 800-872-9622. If donating by mail, checks should be addressed to YMCA of the USA, attention: YMCA World Service, 101 Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606. All checks should be payable to YMCA World Service with "Japan YMCA Relief Fund" noted in the memo line.

Another way you can help save lives is by donating blood. On March 31, the Family Y is sponsoring a blood drive at the American Red Cross Fairfield County Donor Center at 96 Westport Ave., Norwalk, from 12:30 to 6:15 p.m.

If you're interested in giving blood, schedule an appointment online or contact Scott Smith, communications director, at 203-226-8981, Ext. 112, or via email.
