The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and will include a parade along Main Street and a ceremony on Jesup Green.
“This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of these young athletes and demonstrate our support for them and for those who helped them bring home championships to Westport,” First Selectman Gordon Joseloff said. “We are so proud of them. Each and every Westporter is bursting with pride.”
The team, which won the state and New England regional championships, is currently vying for the World Series title in Williamsport, Pa. At 8 p.m. Thursday, the team will go up against Sammamish, Wash. If they win, they’ll advance to the United States championship game on Saturday against California. The last game in the championship is Sunday at 3 p.m.
“No matter how they do in the remaining games, these youngsters are our super heroes, and we look forward to honoring them on Monday along with the softball team,” Joseloff said.
Monday’s events will also celebrate the Westport Little League 10-11 girls' softball team, which won the state title. The managers and coaches of both teams will also be honored. This includes Tim Rogers, Tom Whelan Brett Reiner, and Mark McWhirter, Lou Alfero and Andre Klein.
The parade, to begin on Main Street at Avery Place, will head south on Main Street, cross Post Road East and then end at Jesup Green where a ceremony will he held on the temporary Levitt Pavilion stage.
The events will be held rain or shine.
