About 100 volunteers prepared and served the food to about 200 local residents who have enjoyed a Christmas feast in Westport for the past 42 years, according to feast chair Randy Christophersen.

Local churches and synagogues sponsored the event, with food provided by area restaurants, food stores and Britt-Air.

Susie Goldstein, who supervised the volunteers, was delighted that so many young people were involved. "Eight little kids came in, they're giving back," she said. "It's a beautiful thing to see everyone working together and an amazing outpouring of love."

One of the volunteers, Lee Bennett, was dressed in green and white with a Save the Children T-shirt "to commemorate the children in Newtown," she said.

Clint Goss, a local flutist, played along with recorded holiday songs.

"I love it. It's the first time I've been here and the food is out of this world," said Thomas Defeo, one of the diners from Norwalk.

He enjoyed a Christmas dinner of ham and turkey, with the servers stopping by with beverages, desserts and holiday greetings.
