WESTON, Conn. The loss of power is more than an inconvenience for working parents who must juggle keeping their children occupied and trying to stay on top of their work.
Its been tough, I have to say that," Christina Perez said Wednesday.
"We dont have any power at our house, and I work from home. Now, this has become kind of like a virtual office, Perez said at the Weston Public Library, where she was reading and responding to work emails while keeping her kids busy.
She said town officials have helped ease her workload by allowing residents to use the facilities at Weston High School, where films are being screened throughout the day. Its been a big help. It keeps them distracted and it lets me get some work done, she said.
Since Tuesday, three to four films a day have been shown in the high school auditorium in hopes that it would help relieve the boredom for residents without power.
This is a great alternative that Weston is providing, said Jacki Greenberg, who was with her two young daughters at the high school. Greenberg bunkered down in the corner of the high school to make phone calls and send emails for work while her children enjoyed the movies.
This really is an invaluable service for us. Its really fabulous. It keeps them busy and entertained, she said.
Superintendent of Schools Colleen Palmer said the point of the film series was to help our citizens pass the time in these challenging conditions.
Even though the high school has been closed for classes this week, it has remained open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. so residents can stay warm, read or use the Wi-Fi.
According to the Weston Public School's site, the film schedule for Thursday is:
10 a.m. "The Incredibles" a family of undercover superheroes, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world. Rated PD (115 min.)
1 p.m. "The Pacifier" Disgraced Navy Seal Shane Wolfe is handed a new assignment: Protect the five Plummer kids from enemies of their recently deceased father a government scientist whose top-secret experiment remains in the kids' house. Rated PG (95 min.)
3:30 p.m. "Transformers" An ancient struggle re-erupts on Earth between two extraterrestrial clans, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, with a teenager holding the clue to ultimate power. Rated PG-13 (144 min)
7 p.m.: "National Treasure" A scholar pursues a mythical treasure with his employer-turned-enemy not far behind. Rated PG (131 min.)
