WESTON, Conn. -- The Martino family had to rent a car just to leave their house after three utility poles came crashing down on their driveway during Hurricane Irene on Sunday.
"We're getting through it," said Tricia Martino on Wednesday at the Weston Center shops. She said she worries about her driveway being blocked in the event of an emergency.
Connecticut Light & Power expects to have 99 percent of Weston's power restored by Sunday night, said First Selectman Gayle Weinstein. "I told them that's not good enough for me," said Weinstein.
There are four crews working in Weston - two line crews with a tree crew and two restoration crews. She said the main arteries will be done first, which will restore a lot of power at once, and then the cul-de-sacs will be restored, which will be slower. Roads where people are blocked in by downed trees will be a priority.
"The biggest issue is the lack of water. People filled up bath tubs, but that water is running out," said Weinstein.
Tricia Martino said the first thing she'll do when the power comes back on is take a shower. Her son, Lucas, said he'll turn on the lights in his room and her daughter, Caroline, said she'll watch TV.
Liza Thorsby, who was working at the Weston Public Library on Wednesday, said the first thing she'll do is fill up her empty refrigerator.
The Weston Public Library has free WiFi access for residents, and upgraded its service to allow up to 30 people on at once. It will be open until 9 p.m. through Friday. The town hall has unlimited access.
