Westonites Can Shop Friday for SafeRides Program

WESTON, Conn. ?  Weston residents  can shop for a good cause Friday at the Main Street Weston event held by the Weston Women's League.

From 6 to 10 p.m., the grand terrace room at St. Francis of Assisi Parish will be filled with gifts, clothing, handbags and jewelry. Proceeds will go toward Weston’s SafeRides program, which gives teenagers rides homes on Saturday from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“We picked SafeRides because it's a new program, so they don’t have a cushion and operate on very little. Apparently, the teenage drivers pay for their own gas to drive their peers safely home and we'd like to fund gas for drivers for the coming year,” said Heather Pemberton Levy, president of the Weston Women’s League.

Two B’s Accessories, Madison Bags, Marcello Mirando bags, Vault Denim, Benefits Cosmetics, Pampered Chef, Legos, Shush Shoes, Kate and Drew's Place and Origin Spice boxes have donated items to the raffle and auction. Jewelry comes from Elements, Lula Belle, and Stella and Dot. Calises Dinner Iz Ready is providing food and drinks.

A $10 donation will be requested at the door.

“SafeRides is a wonderful asset for Weston youth to have available to them,” Levy said. “We selected SafeRides as a beneficiary for Main Street Weston with the hope that we can fund their fuel costs for the entire 2011-2012 year."
