Weston Offers Power Outlets at Library, Town Hall

WESTON, Conn. ? Weston's first selectman was busy Monday finding extra power strips for the town's library and town hall. Power had been restored at both locations and residents were busy charging up their cell phones, computers and checking the Internet.

Computers and WiFi are available at both the town hall commission room and the library.

First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said she hopes the schools will have power by tomorrow morning.

"There are still a number of closed roads due to downed trees and power lines," said Weinstein. "People should not be cutting down trees, especially if there are wires involved."

Weinstein said residents should expect to be without power for four to seven days. There were no serious injuries reported as a result of the storm. The town suffered mostly from the winds, Weinstein said. She said flooding was not an issue.

The comfort station at Weston Middle School will be open Monday until 8 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Showers and bathroom facilities are available and residents are asked to bring a towel and toiletries. There is a charging station for cell phones and a spigot for potable water for residents to fill their own containers.

To volunteer for a shift, call Judy Devito at (203) 222-2656.

The transfer station will be open during regular business hours. The senior center will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Internet and outlet access are available there.

The Weston Center has power and stores are open. Lang's Pharmacy has agreed to store medicine in its refrigerator, but plan on keeping a daily supply at home in a cooler with ice packs, Weinstein stated in a notice. Check the school Website after 4 p.m. Monday for an update on Tuesday's scheduled first day.

Connecticut Light & Power's info line is (800) 286-2000 for questions regarding power restoration.
