For many people new to Weston like Francis and Jessica Infurchia, the Welcome to Weston Party held by the Newcomers and Neighbors Club over the weekend was a way to meet and greet their new neighbors.
The Infurchias, who moved from Monroe in May, says the people they have met in Weston have been friendly. It has not been difficult to meet new people, they say, especially with events like the party, which hosted about 75 guests, including First Selectman Gayle Weinstein. Even their own front yard has been an opportunity to meet other Westonites.
"We live on a very residential street, and we've met a bunch of our neighbors. And they're all great, so it hasn't been hard at all," says Frank, a certified public accountant in Norwalk. "We've been out working in the yard, and they just stop, 'Hey! You guys are the new neighbors, nice to meet you.'"
The couple moved to town to be closer to Frank's job and because of the schools. "We like how residential it is and the great school systems. I'm a teacher so I know the reputation of the school system," says Jessica, who teaches special education in Stratford.
Although Monroe has much more shopping and things to do than Weston, the transition has not been difficult, they say.
"Westport is just down the road so it's really not too much farther, and we go to Peter's Market a lot to get groceries," says Jessica.
"It's hardly an adjustment," adds Francis. "We're closer to everywhere we go Norwalk and Westport, or South Norwalk or New Canaan or Darien we're a half-hour closer to everything."
