Weston Mom Solves Tissue Problem

Weston resident Amy Davis wants to make it easier for you to blow your nose while driving. Davis created Kiss-U Tissue Tube — a cylindrical tissue container that fits in car cup holders and is sold in Walgreens — while getting her MBA at Fairfield’s Sacred Heart University.

“Inventing boils down to problem solving,” she said.

She drew inspiration for her product from the numerous times that she, while driving, reached around her car searching for a tissue to hand to one of her three kids.

“Multi-tasking is not actually as neurologically possible as people think it is,” she said.

Her first prototype was an old mailing tube. The final product, which costs $1.99, is 7 ½ inches tall with a pull-through top that can be removed for refills. The Kiss-u tubes have eight different designs.

The name came from a playful rhyming game that goes like this: “Mommy, mommy, I need a tissue.” “Kiss you? I hardly know you.” “No, mommy, not kiss you, tissue.”

About $55,000 in Kiss-u tubes -- which are made in China -- have sold since they debuted Feb. 1. They also are sold in drugstores in Fairfield, Westport, Bridgeport and Darien.
