Weston Market Owner Honored for Giving Back

WESTON, Conn. – Giving back to the community is not just something Jim Magee likes to do, it’s something he feels he has to do. “We have a small community here, and I just think it’s very important that we all work together,” he says.

Magee, owner of Peter’s Weston Market, was recently honored by the Weston Women's League as the first recipient of its Sustained Sponsorship Award for his nearly 20 years of community involvement.

“Jim Magee’s ongoing support of community needs inspired us to create this award,” says league President Heather Pemberton Levy. “Weston residents are fortunate to have a quality market whose owner embraces our service organizations and the people we assist.”

Over the years, Magee has consistently provided food and water donations and sponsorship for the league’s many community events and fundraisers, including the Weston Farmer's Market, the Gingerbread Holiday Brunch, Main Street Weston, Kidstock, Ragamuffin Parade and Fair, and the Spring Baby Shower.

Magee’s donations, in part, allow the league to give more of the proceeds from its events to important service organizations in Weston such as the Weston Warm-Up Fund, Social Services, Senior Center and Safe Rides as well as to charities in neighboring towns.

The league's award also recognizes Magee for his support of the Weston community during the storms that struck this past August and October. During both, Westonites experienced prolonged blackouts that forced them into the town's shelters for relief. Once there, residents were greeted with food and water donated by Magee.

During the storms the market was one of the few business open, and Magee and his employees could be seen hustling ice to the cooler and working long hours to make sure residents had supplies to take home.

“I was completely blown away that they gave me this award. It’s a great honor and I feel really blessed. But it’s not just me. I owe it to my wife and all my employees, who really stepped up to the plate.”
