To The Editor:
Responsiveness is one of the best qualities in an elected official—responsiveness not just to our applicants but to our community. As a member of Weston’s Planning and Zoning Commission, I believe the best way to be responsive to our community is to balance respect for our regulations with the needs of an evolving town. In other words, follow the regulations but be mindful of those situations that repeatedly call for reconsideration of a particular zoning rule. For example, last year our commission revised Weston’s fence height regulations. This change, which I wholeheartedly supported, was initiated by Planning and Zoning because the regulation simply did not work for our town. As with any such amendment, a public hearing was held before a vote deciding the issue was taken.
If re-elected, I will continue to support the regulations and their fair and even-handed implementation. Additionally, I will speak up if regulations should be amended to meet the changing needs of our town. I look forward to continuing that dialogue.
