Weston Letter: Gilbert Is 'A Man About Town'

As you begin to review the candidates running for Weston's first selectman, you may want to consider their commitment to our community. One clear indication is their involvement in community service.

Dan Gilbert has been serving food to the hungry at the Emergency Shelter in Norwalk for the past 23 years. That commitment of time alone speaks volumes of Dan's desire to serve the community and help others. Yet it only scratches the surface.

Dan is also involved with a number of organizations reaching out to different segments of our community. Each year Dan works on an AmeriCares project helping to refurbish homes for those in need. With Kiwanis Club, Dan splits wood for the Warm Up fund and collects food for the Food Pantry. Each month he serves at the Senior Citizens Luncheons with the Norfield Church. As a Medical Reserve Corps volunteer, Dan supports the Weston Westport Health District. At St. Francis Church, he is a Eucharistic minister. Dan not only serves his community but also is a leader. As 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Dan led 150 men as their artillery firing battery commander.

I equate Dan to the Energizer Bunny; he just keeps giving and caring about our community.
