Dovolani hosted the second annual Tony Dovolani Golf for Special Needs Children Tournament, earmarking the proceeds for the Trumbull-based Kennedy Center.
“I am honored to be a member of the PGA Player and Coaching Development Committee and look forward to contributing to the future of professional golf and helping such worthwhile charities such as The Kennedy Center,” he said.
The donation included $12,000 raised by Toyota of Stamford, which donated $50 for each car it sold during the month of August.
When Dovolani left the hit show a few years ago, he formed a nonprofit to raise funds for children with special needs.
The charity golf classic took place at Mill River Country Club in Stratford and included golf, lunch and dinner and a performance by Dovolani and other “Dancing With the Stars” dancers.
Dovolani is still active in the dance profession and he now owns Dance With Me U.S.A. of Stamford.
Since 2006, The Autism Project has served more than 500 families and has become one of the leading providers of support services for children with ASD in Fairfield and New Haven counties.
“We are able to provide these services because of the great philanthropy in our community,” said Kennedy Center President Martin Schwartz. “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Tony Dovolani and his foundation as well as to his friends at Toyota of Stamford for their spirit of generosity.”
