Town Seeks Grant to Fix Ball Fields

A solution to the decades-long drainage problems at the Revson Fields may be in sight, if the state approves a recent grant application from the town, according to town administrator, Tom Landry.

The Small Town Economic Assistance Program grant application, requests $85,800 from the state to make improvements to two town-owned athletic fields. That same amount would be matched by Weston. Landry said the renovations would improve the drainage situation and that at this time there is only one way to fix it. Tearing them up would be more costly as there is a septic system below the fields and the high school baseball team and other sports organizations would be out of commission for a year.

Renovations would include better irrigation and removing the current infield material and improving the layout and pitch to encourage better water run off. Slit drainage systems would be installed in the outfield to drain the water more effectively. If the grant is not approved, Landry said the renovations would have to be stretched out over a longer period of years.
