Dear Members of the Easton and Redding Communities:
It is after much thought and reflection that I write to inform you of my decision to retire at the end of the 2010-11 school year as superintendent for the Easton, Redding, and Region 9 School Districts after 35 years of service to public education in Connecticut.
Easton and Redding are wonderful communities and the residents and town officials have been extremely supportive. We are very fortunate to have parents and other town residents who are involved in education, knowledgeable about the needs of the districts, and willing to share their perspectives and concerns in such an articulate and respectful manner. In terms of parent and community involvement, it does not get any better than what I have experienced in Easton and Redding.
I deeply appreciate the support that the three Boards of Education have provided during my tenure. It has been a privilege to serve with Board members who are so committed to doing what is right for students, as evidenced by the discourse at Board of Education meetings and by the significant amount of related work they do outside of meetings. They are truly selfless in their service to the students of Easton and Redding. Similarly, the administrators, teachers, and support staff members who work with students on a daily basis are exceptional. They approach their work with a seriousness of purpose and deep commitment to the success and well-being of their students. I am grateful for their support and for their efforts on behalf of students.
Please know that I will continue to work very hard on behalf of students until my tenure comes to a close in June. There is much that I wish to accomplish during the next eight months. I am also committed to assisting the Boards of Education with the leadership transition to a new superintendent.
I extend my very best wishes for continued success in providing such excellent instruction and learning opportunities for students. I hope you feel that my decisions and actions have always been in the best interests of students, supportive of staff, and respectful of parents and the community. I feel fortunate to be able to conclude my educational career in a place as exceptional as the Easton, Redding, and Region 9 School Districts. It has been a privilege to have served as your superintendent of schools.
