Mellow Cellos Rock the Library

Beautiful classical music filled the library Wednesday night at Franz Ryerson's "An Evening of Cello." Ryerson, a former orchestra director and strings teacher in the Weston schools, showcased the talents of seven of her students.

Although she retired last year after 21 years with the school system, she continues to teach private lessons at the Emmanuel Church Hall.

Cameron Edgar, 11, said he has been preparing to play Jean-Baptiste Breval's Sonata in C major since the beginning of the school year.

"I'm very happy to have her as a teacher. I feel very lucky to be doing this," said Edgar. "She's very nice and very helpful."

Ryerson said she has taught classical cello to some of her students for many years. "That's what they love," she said. "Many are in youth orchestras and they're all in school orchestras."

The other students who performed were Andrea Yokovich, Kate Goldberg, Katie Mitchell, Elaine Hong, Grayson Kane and Lila Zwonitzer, who has been studying with Ryerson for seven years.

The students were accompanied by Sandra Simpson Kleisner on piano.
