WESTON, Conn. The Weston Republican Town Committee recently held a campaign Meet and Mingle at the Norfield Grange Hall. Local Weston residents welcomed and listened to former Gov. Jodi Rell; state Sen. Toni Boucher; state Rep. Gail Lavielle; Jason McCoy, the mayor of Vernon, Conn. and a U.S. Senate candidate; U.S. House candidate Steve Obsitnik, of Westport; U.S. House candidate David Orner, of Darien; and Connecticut state Republican chairman, Jerry Labriola.
The atmosphere at the Oct. 1 event was decidedly upbeat in light of the poor poll results that President Obama and Gov. Malloy have recently received. Boucher pointed out that honored guest and former Gov. Rell, during her administration, had received the highest Quinnipiac approval rating (83 percent) of any governor in the U.S. The senator also pointed out that Malloy received the lowest approval rating of any Democratic governor in a recent Quinnipiac poll.
Woody Bliss, former Weston first selectman, was master of ceremonies. He thanked all for coming, introduced the guest speakers and recognized the local Republican candidates for office, including Selectman Dan Gilbert, candidate for first selectman; Dennis Tracy, candidate for selectman; Donna Anastasia, town clerk; Ellen Uzenoff, Board of Education; Nina Daniel, candidate for the Board of Education; Jerry Sargent, Board of Finance; Michael Carter, Board of Finance; David Finkel, candidate for the Board of Finance; Bill Brady, Police Commission; Britta Lerner, Planning and Zoning Commission; and Glenn Van Deusen, candidate for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate.
