Tomato and corn season is officially in swing at Sport Hill Farm in Easton. Owner Patricia Popp has a large selection of heirloom and cherry tomatoes ripe for late summer salads or to top a juicy burger.
This is the first year that the farm has grown its own corn so the bicolor sweet corn is quite a treat. Popp said that occasionally a worm will "hitchhike" its way onto the corn, but she can remove it before you take it home.
"This may seem foreign to some, but rest assured that if corn contains worms, it's not a GMO variety and has been grown organically," she said.
In June, Popp helped students at Samuel Staples Elementary plant pumpkin seeds on land she is leasing next to the school.
"We were lucky to be the chosen ones to lease the property at Samuel Staples Elementary School and return it to its former farming roots," she said. "I donated my time in June, and we were able to have the children plant pumpkins, which are doing well despite the drought conditions."
Eggplant also is for sale on the school grounds, and red potatoes, onions, zucchini, cucumbers, hot and sweet peppers, garlic, kale, Swiss chard and beets are also in abundance.
Sport Hill Farm is at 596 Sport Hill Road in Easton.
