Blake Braun is no ordinary kid. Few children would be as selfless as this 7-year-old student of Fairfield Country Day School. Instead of asking for gifts for his recent birthday, he's calling on his friends and family to donate to CancerCare for Kids instead.
Blake is also joining the call to help those in need by participating in the Blocks of Love LEGO Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 20 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. The event is a fundraiser for CancerCare for Kids and is open to the public. The event features LEGO build and play booths, robotics demonstrations, crafts, holiday toys and rare LEGO models on display and for sale.
Kids from all over Fairfield County will build models, each asking for sponsorships to raise money for CancerCare. The creations will be on display at Blocks of Love, and at local businesses afterward, to raise awareness for CancerCare's programs. Blake built a model Cargo Train and has already raised $1,125.
CancerCare offers free professional support services to cancer patients as well as their family members and caregivers. Last year, it helped more than 3,000 people in Connecticut find counseling, support groups, education, financial assistance and practical help.
