Irene Leaves Swath of Damage in Easton

EASTON, Conn. — Tropical Storm Irene caused many trees to crash in Easton over the weekend. Many roads were closed, and 2,231 households were without power as of 7 p.m. Sunday — about 78 percent of the United Illuminating customers in town.

A tree collapsed on Erika Mirwald's neighbor's driveway, ruining a rock wall and tearing up the driveway, she told The Daily Easton in an email Sunday.
