'Go Fish' At Sherwood Island Nature Center

WESTPORT, Conn. – Explore the many different fish that lurk in Long Island Sound off Sherwood Island State Park in Westport this week during Shark and Fish Week at the Sherwood Island Nature Center.

Visitors to the center can see the live fish on display or help staff catch more fish and other marine animals using a seine net. Center visitors also can play a game of “Go Fish” to identify and learn about their catches.

Kids can participate in a variety of arts and crafts, like making a fish windsock or a shark hat. There also will be games, like “Pin the tooth on the shark.”

Shark and Fish Week is from Aug. 1-5. The Nature Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

Also this week, David Park will be the featured speaker at Thursday’s Sunset Lecture Series. Park, author of “Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands,” will discuss kayaking the area between Long Neck Point in Darien and Sherwood Point in Westport. Copies of his book will be on sale. The lecture begins at 6 p.m. at the Nature Center.
