The Westport Youth Film Festival is $2,500 richer thanks to a grant from WestonArts.
"WYFF's Weston ties are very important to our organization," said Kate Lupo, the festival's program director. "I, myself, am a Weston native and am constantly reminded of the incredible support WYFF has in this town."
The Westport Youth Film Festival annually showcases the work of high school filmmakers from around the world and is a year-round program that inspires community dialogue on the art of film through screenings and events open to the public.
Weston High School students Chris Casey, Emma Wiseman and David Burstein started the festival in 2003. Each year, a number of its Youth Board members hail from Weston High. This year, 13 of the 20 members of the Youth Board are Weston High students, including Festival Director Matt Kalmans.
The festival receives strong support from Weston High videography teacher Dave Eger, who has done much to promote the young filmmakers and leaders who participate in the festival each year.
"We are proud to be supported by WestonArts, an organization that recognizes the importance of programs like WYFF that work to empower student creativity and leadership through the arts," Lupo said.
The WestonArts grant will support the festival's programming and the expenses of the annual festival, which will showcase student films. The festival's new online platform for film submissions makes it easy for youth filmmakers from around the world to submit films. All filmmakers of high school age or younger are encouraged to participate. The deadline for submissions is March 15.
