Father Dunn Blesses Weston's Pets

Westonites brought their four-legged friends to St. Francis of Assisi Church on Saturday for a Blessing of the Animals ceremony in honor of St. Francis of Assisi's love for animals. The Rev. Michael Dunn blessed each dog and said a prayer for all, with everyone falling silent except for the dogs, which continued to bark, howl and sniff throughout the ceremony.

The 15 or so dogs played nicely with each other until a few troublemakers arrived. The Blessing of the Animals ceremony is a common practice at many churches.

Today, a Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in honor of Monday's Feast of St. Francis, its patron saint. The winner of the St. Francis of Assisi Award for service will be named. The church will host a parish picnic after the Mass, with food, music, an inflatable obstacle course, a rock-climbing tower and other activities. Admission for the activities and unlimited food and drinks is $10 per adult or $25 per family.

St. Francis of Assisi is located at 35 Norfield Road in Weston.
