End Summer With a Bang at Westport Camp

WESTPORT, Conn. – Send your kids back to school with memories they can tell their friends about. From Aug. 22 to 26, the Westport Weston Family Y's Camp Mahackeno is hosting a Special Events Week for children entering grades 1 through 6. Children will play laser tag and take part in a live game show in addition to regular camp activities such as swimming, archery, canoeing and rock wall climbing.

Monday, Aug. 22, the featured event will be laser tag, organized by First Person Sport. Tuesday there will be a portable electric-car racetrack, arcade games and a party DJ. Wednesday will be all about water games and will include a dunk tank, slip 'n' slide and a water slide. On Thursday, campers will participate in a live game show organized by Hollyrock Entertainment. The show will be followed by a cupcake decorating session hosted by the Fresh Market bakery. On Friday, campers will celebrate the end of the summer with a pool party, cookout and tie-dye design party.

The cost for the five-day session is $425. Financial aid is available for campers who qualify. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Pick-up time is between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., depending on your child's age.

Extended hours before and after daily sessions are available for campers whose parents work early or late. The Sunrise program takes place from 8 to 9 a.m. and costs $55 for the week. The Sunset program ($80 for the week) allows campers to be picked up as late as 6 p.m. There will be no Sunset program on Friday, Aug. 26.
