Easton's Mayor Tans, Gets Mani-Pedis

Thomas Herrmann may be the first selectman in Easton, but Julie T. is the mayor.

Saturday is Foursquare Day. Why? Because April is the fourth month and 16 is four squared. This is a day to get out of the house and connect with other people by checking in at different locations using a smartphone app called Foursquare.

Four people have checked into Easton a total of 10 times. Julie T. has checked into Easton five times. As of Friday afternoon, Julie T. was listed as the mayor of 10 locations, including: Black Rock, Little Phoenix Preschool, Home, Easton Country Day School, Roanoke Ave. in Fairfield, Hollywood Tans in New Rochelle, N.Y., Stamford, RadioShack in Bridgeport and Sweety Nails in Bridgeport. Some businesses offer specials or coupons to mayors in the game.

The Easton Village Store’s mayor is Ed A., with two check-ins. Foursquare users collect points and virtual badges for each check-in and can battle to be the mayor of an area by checking in more than anyone else within 60 days.

There are more than 8 million Foursquare users worldwide, adding 35,000 new users each day, according to its website, Foursquare.com. There are more than 2.5 million check-ins each day, with more than a half-billion check-ins in the past year. Are you a mayor? Leave your comments below.
