EASTON, Conn. ? When Kelly Sheehan's power is turned back on, the first thing she is going to do is shower and flush the toilets. A tree fell over her driveway during Hurricane Irene and at 3 p.m. Sunday her power was shut off.
"With four kids we've been going a little crazy," said Sheehan, who brought her children to the Easton Village Store on Wednesday. "They said maybe we would get power tonight ... but there's still trees on wires. I know they're doing their best, but it's so ridiculous? it was a tropical storm and it's taking this long?"
Sheehan paid for someone to clear her driveway so she could get out of the house. Her kids have been keeping busy with soccer practices, going to the park and on walks.
"They found they really like to play hide and seek in the dark," Sheehan said, adding that her kids use a light from a toy to tag the person who is hiding. Her daughter Erin said she's going to turn on the computer first, and daughter Katie said she'll watch TV once the power is back on.
Around two dozen residents used Helen Keller Middle School on Tuesday to shower and clean up. There is an outlet available for people to plug in hair dryers and charge phones.
