Easton Closes Book on Summer Reading With a Party

EASTON, Conn. -- In a way, the last chapter of Easton Public Library's summer reading program for kids was the best. The Two Cat Band entertained the young readers Thursday at a party of song and dance in the library's community room.

The Two Cats (Mike Michaels and Phil Rosenthal) played the banjo, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and sang tunes like "Skip to my Lou" and "Turkey in a Straw" while the kids sang along and danced.

About 100 Easton kids read nearly 2,000 books this summer, earning prizes for each volume they finished, said Lynn Zaffino, the children and young adult's librarian at the Easton Public Library.

On Friday, a party was thrown for the program's volunteers, who kept track of how many books each child read and give out prizes.
