The Easton Volunteer Firemans Carnival is this week's fun mecca. Celebrating its landmark 75th year, the festivities begin today, Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continue through Saturday.
Volunteer fireman Michael Sabia says the carnival is always a big draw, and this year's is expected to be as popular as ever. People plan their family vacations around it every year, he says. They dont want to miss it.
Favorite rides include the bumper cars, compete with a bingo tent and other games spread out over the grounds across from the firehouse near the Easton Village Store. A sparkling, new red 2010 Camaro is sure to steal the show. The car will be raffled off at the carnival's end.
Games and bingo run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. every night and rides operate from 6 to 11 p.m. Other attractions include the Ali Baba flying carpet ride, The Cliff Hanger and the Rip Cord, which lifts you high in the air and drops you onto a mat. Less challenging kiddie rides will keep small fry entertained. And with a different meal special every night, sandwiches, fries, and a dessert tent with the carnival's famous peach shortcake, it's a great place for chowhounds.
Free parking is available at Helen Keller Middle School and a shuttlebus offers roundtrip rides to the carnival and back. Handicapped parking is available at Silvermans Farm. For more information, visit the Carnival's website.
