Concert To Benefit Easton 9/11 Memorial

A concert to benefit Easton’s Sept. 11, 2001, memorial will be held at Notre Dame Church on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m.

The green in front of the Easton Library was dedicated to Easton native Peter Hanson, his wife Sue and their 2-year-old daughter Christine in September. The Hanson family was on the hijacked plane that crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center is 2001.

“The benefit concert will hopefully allow us to reach our goal to build the memorial,” said Dr. Sal Santella of Easton. Santella was the chairman of the original committee formed in 2007 to construct a memorial and is treasurer of the building committee for the memorial. “The Hansons have been in town for years. Christine was their only grandchild." Santella said the Hanson family was the only family killed on 9/11.

The memorial will consist of a pergola standing above three benches – one for each family member. Two stone walls will represent the Twin Towers, and a flowerbed and flagpole also will be included.

The concert will feature tenor Aaron Caruso, a personal friend of Santella’s, along with Marcantonio Pezzano as emcee, soprano Christina Luna, Craig Calistro on piano, Frank Calistro on trumpet and Tony Reno on drums. Reno is the host of the Italian House Party on WICC on Sunday mornings.

Caruso will also sing at 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 1, before the concert.

Tickets are $25 or $20 for seniors and children. Tickets may be purchased at the Easton Senior Center, Luigi’s in Bridgeport or by calling Sal and Marilyn Santella at 203-374-3161.
