Chess Program Checks Into Library

Weston's would-be kid chess masters will be back making their moves later this month at the library. The Chess Mates program returns by popular demand, giving young people the chance to play against their peers and challenge their knowledge of the game.

Kids in grades one through 12 with basic knowledge can sign up for the Friends of the Weston Library program, which is scheduled for Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 29.

Children who attend four or more sessions are eligible to participate in a Nov. 10 tournament. A tournament on Aug. 21 for the summer chess group brought almost 50 participants from Weston and surrounding towns to the library.

To join the Chess Mates, register at the library by Sept. 22. Parents must remain in the library while games are in session.
