Catching Up With Diane Farrell

The Daily Westport met up with former Westport First Selectman Diane Farrell at a speaking engagement with the Stamford Chamber of Commerce on Thursday and asked her a few questions. Farrell is now a board member at the Export-Import Bank in Washington, D.C., and travels the world talking up U.S. international trade opportunities.

The Daily Westport: You've been in your position for about four years now. How's it going?

Diane Farrell: It's fabulous and so exciting. The U.S. has a really great story to tell the world about our companies and our products. It's an area of our economy that is still growing.

DW: What do you miss the most about Westport?

Farrell: Not that much because we bought a house in Easton and come back just about every weekend. I still do all my shopping in Westport, and we can see our old friends.

DW: What's your favorite place to eat in Westport?

Farrell: Tavern on Main, most definitely.

DW: Do you think there will ever be an end to the rancor and bitterness that exists in Washington right now?

Farrell: I'm not very hopeful on the short term. Maybe after the 2012 elections, but right now everything is pretty bad.

DW: Any thoughts about running for office again?

Farrell: Nope. Everything is great now and change is always good. We're very happy right now.
